Alan has extensive development experience having held senior positions at a number of leading development companies prior to founding Generation Estates. Between 2010 and 2015, Alan worked in joint venture with The Carlyle Group creating and operating a £530m portfolio of high quality purpose built student accommodation assets. Prior to this Alan worked on three separate joint ventures with The Blackstone Group that developed and operated in excess of 2,500 student beds.
Before establishing Generation Estates, Alan was Development Director at City & West End Developments, a niche London office developer that was acquired by Security Capital Europe Realty in 1998 and which developed and acquired assets approaching £500m. Prior to joining City & West End Developments in 1997, Alan was a director of London & Edinburgh Trust, a significant development company created by the Beckwith brothers that was acquired by SPP.
Gareth established Generation Estates with Alan Artus in January 2004.
As a result of student accommodation experience gained prior to Generation Estates, Gareth originated the opportunity to acquire and develop 200 Pentonville Road as a sizeable mixed use scheme anchored by purpose built student accommodation. The completed project Nido Kings Cross, redefined student living in London. Through successful joint ventures with both The Blackstone Group and The Carlyle Group, Generation has been at the forefront of the purpose built student accommodation market for more than a decade as one of the leading developers and an experienced operator in the sector.
Prior to forming Generation Estates, Gareth was a Director of The Osborne Group where he managed a series of mixed use projects in London often in joint ventures with Manhattan Loft Corporation. Gareth started his career at St Quintin in the City of London and was subsequently a partner at Grimley JR Eve.
Gareth holds an honours degree from the University of Reading where he read Land Management qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor in 1985.
Nick has over 15 years’ experience in real estate and banking and is currently leading on acquisitions for Generation’s student fund.
Since 2010 Nick has purely focused on the PBSA sector. Prior to Europa Generation Nick co-founded a property company focused on land promotion and development specifically in the PBSA sector. Nick therefore has extensive experience in project origination, acquisition, financing and development of UK student accommodation.
Prior Nick worked for seven years in the European real estate finance business. He spent five years in the Commercial Real Estate Finance Group of Deutsche Bank focusing on securitised and syndicated lending. Nick spent a further two years focusing on European loan restructuring within the CMBS market and co-founded a European Special Servicer.
Prior to Deutsche Bank Nick started his career at DTZ in London, focusing on European real estate markets including real estate funds, corporate finance and strategy.
Nick holds a BSc (2.1) in Politics from the University of Bristol, an MSc in Real Estate Finance from CASS Business School and a Certificate of Business Excellence from Columbia Business School in New York. Nick is also a non-executive Director of LJ Administration (UK) Ltd (part of the Alvarium Group) and a Trustee of the Ukuthemba Foundation.
Between 2010-2015, Jonathan was the group’s Development Director being responsible for managing the delivery of all developments undertaken in the Generation / Carlyle joint venture amounting to £120m of development expenditure. Since 2015 Jonathan has been responsible for a number of sizeable office projects including 80 Charlotte Street in London’s west end.
Prior to joining Generation Estates, Jonathan was Head of Projects at Great Portland Estates where he was responsible for delivery of a number of successful commercial schemes including 160 Tooley Street, 180 Great Portland Street and the Met building.
Previous positions included client side project management for City & West End Developments where Jonathan worked with Alan Artus and at The Osborne Group with Gareth Davies.
Jonathan has excellent broad experience of the development process having also worked with Gardiner and Theobald Management Services, Ove Arup and Partners and Shepherd Construction.
